How To Choose The Best Electric Rice Cookers

Rice cookers are perfect options especially for people who does not have the time and patience to cook rice on a conventional way.  Electric rice cookers are the perfect choice for the reason that it only requires you to prepare the rice, put the required water and measurement and turn the rice cooker on. All you have to do is to wait for the rice to be cooked.
As there are several brands, models and even types of rice cookers that are found in the market, it is very important if you will look for the right rice cooker. After all this is an investment for a home appliance that will last for several years.

Brand
One of the aspects that you have to consider if you are looking for the best electric rice cookers is the brand. There are several brands of rice cookers but not all can be a good option as they don’t have the quality and durability that you are looking for. You can gamble on new brands of rice cookers but it is still advisable to select the brand that has already become known in the market. Choosing a brand that is already recognized can give you peace of mind knowing that you have the best product.
Durability
Durability is also one of the best qualities that you have to keep on mind in buying electric rice cookers. When the appliance is durable enough, you don’t have to replace them every now and then. It is such a difficult situation knowing that after 3-5 uses then the rice cooker is not working anymore.
Quality
When choosing the best electric rice cookers, one element that you need to remember is the quality of the product. Do not just buy a product without checking if it is high in quality or not. Check if the product is approved or have certain licenses or ISO certified product. This will guarantee that the product is indeed a great option.
Product Reviews
Product review is undeniably one of the powerful tools that you can use to make sure that you can get the right product. If the product has a good review then you can surely find the best product that is right according to your needs.
Price
The pricing of electric rice cooker depends on various factors like the brand, type and capacity of the rice cooker. The bigger the rice cooker is, the higher the amount it cost. So, you just have to select the one that is applicable according to your needs.

Today I set out to find the best 10-cup rice cooker on the market. After hours of digging, slicing and dicing of the information, I was pleased as well as somewhat surprised with my findings.

The Ranking Result

One product was ranked as the highest in the overall score based on price, customer ratings, features and functionality. On the other hand, the results from two other products in the line-up were counter-intuitive. One product scored as the runner-up with the highest price as well as the most advanced in the heating technology. Another product was the least expensive out of the five products and with the most primitive heating element.

The Winner

The Panasonic SR-MS183 10-Cup Rice Cooker beat all other four Zojirushi rice cookers in the category as the best 10-cup rice cooker.

Capacity Sizes

Two capacity sizes of 5.5 and 10 cups in dry rice offer consumers the flexibility of feeding from small to large families. Rice doubles the volume after cooking. So a 5.5 cup is plenty for singles up to medium-sized families. The 10-cup size is adequate to feed a large family of 6-8 people. The only caveat is that rice is used for side dish instead of main.

Heating Technology

Equipped with fuzzy logic, the SR-MS183 has the capability to adjust the cooking temperature and duration based on what you are cooking. The fuzzy logic contains different sets of variables programmed in the computer chip in the rice cooker. The rice cooker knows what type of grain and the number of cups you are cooking. Therefore, the temperature and cooking time are adjusted accordingly.

What’s So Special about the Inner Cooking Pot?

In addition to the fuzzy logic technology, the SR-MS183 is designed with some very competitive features in the inner cooking pot. First off, the cooking pot is indented with dimples to promote better heat transfer and distribution within the pot. The Binchotan (white charcoal) is coated on the inside of the pot to absorb the undesired smell from the tap water and also enhance the aroma of the rice.

Abundant Menu Options

The Panasonic rice cooker has 8 menu options from white rice, brown rice, sweet rice, porridge, quick cooking, steam, slow cook to bake. The uniqueness of Panasonic rice cooker in general is the multi-functionality vs. the refined rice cooking menu settings in Zojirushi’s rice cookers (exceptions do apply sometimes).

Affordable Price Point

The price point is another huge plus in Panasonic rice cookers as it is in the SR-MS183. On an average within this comparison, the Panasonic is $50 less expensive than Zojirushi rice cookers. For the budget-minded shoppers, this is a significant differentiator.

Nearly Perfect Score on Consumer Ratings

Thanks to all the above product strengths, the Panasonic SR-MS183 has garnered a 4.8 out of 5 star ratings which is about as good as you can get in a consumer product.

Ranking Criteria

By the way, my analysis was based on hundreds of consumer ratings on Amazon. The 5 products I’d chosen in this ranking were all bestsellers in the 10-cup category. Each product can stand on its own merit. The approach I took was even more rigorous, comprehensive and objective. Multiple criteria were taken into consideration such as:
  • Capacity sizes
  • Heating technologies
  • The inner cooking pot
  • The menu options
  • Other features such as color, dimensions, control panel, convenience factors, accessories, electricity consumptions and warranty
  • Consumer ratings
  • Price
In addition, a weight percentage was assigned to each product attribute and a scoring system developed to calculate the final results.

10 cup rice cookers

One way to demonstrate the value of a Sanyo rice cooker is to do a direct comparison with another leading brand. Point for point, a Sanyo 10 cup rice cooker stands up against even the stiffest competition. Even the accessories it comes with are of equal or better quality, and the versatility of a Sanyo rice cooker rivals even the recognized performance of Zojirushi rice cookers.
The Sanyo ECJ-D100S rice cooker, for example, can be used for the customary array of rices and steamed vegetables, but it goes an extra step, and adds a function that isn't commonly advertised for rice cookers: Tofu cooking. And, of course, the Sanyo 3.5 cup ECJ-S35S rice cooker has a bread baking function built in, which means you can enjoy the hearty taste of fresh baked bread, free of preservatives and any unwanted ingredients, or flavored with spices or cheeses to make it uniquely your own.
I don't care to leave my rice sitting for hours after it's cooked, if I can help it, but I have found that the automatic warmer on the Sanyo 10 cup rice maker is excellent for stews and soups, where the pot can simply be left to serve from as needed. And where the Zojirushi claims up to 12 hours of freshness, even for rice, after cooking, the best rice cooker award for that would go to a Sanyo rice cooker, for its extended 24 hour feature. And while we are on the subject of time, nothing competes with Sanyo's advance cook timer, which allows you to set the container to complete cooking at a specified time, and forget about it until then.
Both Zojirushi and Sanyo rice cookers have removable inner cook pots, and reviews are split on which is better, but the titanium coated interior of the Sanyo ECJ-PX50S has a proven track record for its non-stick easy cleanup. And the curved bottom on both brands helps as well, both with easy cleaning and better balanced heat distribution during the cook process. In this department, there isn't a clear winner, as both have rated very well.
In the final comparison, a Sanyo rice maker comes out on top, but that is not necessarily the news you wanted to hear. Sanyo rice cookers tend to be a little pricier than other brands of rice cookers and warmers, partly because they make more integrated use of the computers. If you were looking for a cheap kitchen appliance to prepare the rice, Sanyo rice cookers are probably not the one for you, but if your concern is with quality and performance, and sheer variety of possibilities, you would do well to consider something like a Sanyo 10 cup ECJ-D100S, which excellent for many uses.
